DD Design Philosophy

DIGITAL DESIGNS drivers are among the most unique items to be found anywhere in the audio market. It is the goal of DIGITAL DESIGNS to create the finest products possible. We are dedicated to the ultimate performance of the product no matter the lengths required of the design or manufacturing process. We are a vertically integrated, one stop shop, we design and manufacture our own products. We keep our eyes on one goal, performance, and go to whatever lengths necessary to achieve that goal.

We custom manufacture top plates, pole pieces, baskets, cones and whatever else it takes to make the best drivers in the world. Since we manufacture most of our own subassemblies we have the ability to respond quickly to changing market conditions and new technologies. DIGITAL DESIGNS will strive to stay at the forefront, if not the leader in breaking technologies. There’s a lot of great and exciting stuff to come. Although speakers can be broken down to all their various parts, and features can be described, explained and analyzed, a speaker is more than the sum of its parts. A speaker, or any product, is an idea or concept brought to life by someone or some company. That idea or concept is shaped by the elements that go into it, each contributing to the total performance. Much like a high performance engine, one performance feature helps another, which in turn helps another. The cumulative effect is more important than any singular component.
DD speakers are developed with their enclosures for an intended application. The speaker and enclosure form a system, so they should be designed and developed together for optimum performance. See our enclosure section for more info.

HOW WE BUILD THEM:

We overbuild, overengineer, overdesign, overglue, overhere and overthere and everywhere we can think of. We use only the highest temperature adhesives, highest temperature wire, strongest everything. We double glue every joint with two different types of glue. Our spider/coil/cone joint has SEVEN glue joints alone. It takes a lot more time to build speakers this way but we’ve been building speakers for recording engineers for years that get very upset with down time. If the speakers aren’t working, they aren’t either.

We’ve spent years researching ways to make speakers more and more durable. If there’s a manufacturing technique that will help, we implement it. If an improved material comes available, we try it. We are constantly researching and improving in order to build the best product we possibly can. Which leads us into

THE UPGRADE PROGRAM:

Tired of buying that wondergigit and a few months later finding out your wondergigit is now obsolete, out of date and no longer wondrous at all. Technology moves fast these days and when improvements in materials prove themselves to be a benefit in performance we incorporate them into the new models.
This improvement process led us into an innovative upgrade program in our studio line designed to keep our customers up to date with the latest technology. We do not wish to leave anyone behind after they have spent their well-earned money. Technology changes, it’s a way of life, either improve or fade away. At DIGITAL DESIGNS we have developed a way to build the best and upgrade our previous customers to the latest and greatest.

Since DIGITAL DESIGNS motor structures are precision machined, and they utilize state of the art design and engineering principles, most of the technological improvements are found in what we call the soft parts; cones, coils etc. When significant improvements come along that warrant implementation, we offer an upgrade package.

Our construction techniques allow us to change the frame and soft parts while keeping the motor intact. These precision motor assemblies represent a significant portion of the driver cost, which then lets us offer the upgrade at a reasonable cost. The customer receives what is essentially a new speaker but not having to pay for the motor twice. Have your cake and eat it too!

CHANGE FRAME SIZES AND COILS

Your audio system will very likely change in the future, so with the DD upgrade program, your speakers can be changed accordingly. You can downsize from 15s to 10s to fit that new sports car, or upsize if needed. You can change coil impedance on some models (3500 thru 99z) to match new power requirements.
